Blue Tit in Box 1, from 2007
2013-05-22:There is at least one egg in Box 2. The camera angle makes it a bit tricky to see if it's the only one.
2013-05-18:A second egg for Box 3 today. Still none for the Box 2 pair.
I've added an option to select the Java viewer, rather than using Java as a fallback. If you use this, please make sure you have the latest version of Java installed!
2013-05-16:The pair in Box 3 have their first egg!
2013-05-15:The video from Box 3 became very distorted a few days ago. I had to climb up to the boxes to repair it - and desite choosing a moment when there where no swifts visible I still managed to get noticed. A single swift (likely one of the pair in Box 3) made a very close flyby of my head. After a very quick repair the video is back to normal, and thankfully both birds are back in the box.
2013-05-10:The Swift in Box 2 has been joined by its partner! Unusually it hung outside the entrance for about 10 minutes before entering, with only its head in the box. Even in the box it stayed at the entrance for another 10 minutes or so before joining the other Swift on the nest.
2013-05-09:A single Swift has returned to Box 2! Hopefully its partner will appear soon.
Box 1 also got a visit from a Great Tit today. I don't think there's any chance of a nest there now but I'll keep an eye out.
2013-05-04:Box 2 is now online, sorta. The image is very hazy - that lens is covered in dirt either from the swifts or a spider. To say I'm not a fan of spiders is an understatement. It's going to be an interesting experience opening up that box to clean it, while up a ladder...
Update: No spiders, yay! Camera in Box 2 has been cleaned and the image is much better. I've also replaced the camera in Box 3 and just minutes after putting the box back up a pair where in. I didn't even have the ladder down.
2013-05-02:Well this is disappointing, Box 1 appears to have been abandoned. The Great Tit pair are still around but they just don't have any interest anymore - unless this is a different pair? I'm really not sure. But it looks like it's up to the Swifts now.
2013-04-28:Lots happening today. The male Great Tit fed the female inside the nest box this-morning, and not long after she started bringing in some nest material. Nest building has begun in Box 1!
And a very unexpected visit to Box 2 by at least one Swift - I really didn't think they'd be in the boxes so soon after returning to the town, normally they take a few weeks. Those boxes are offline as I was still in the process of replacing the cameras.
2013-04-27:Now the Swifts are back! About 8 where seen flying above the house. I'd better get those cameras online soon...
2013-04-25:And we're back! Welcome to the 2013 season, starting later than usual.
Right now there is a pair of Great Tits visiting Box 1 each morning. The female has been doing some nest wiggles, a move which helps shape the nest. There's no nest material yet but this is a good sign that she's thinking about building.
I've not spotted any Swifts over Cookstown yet, but there are reports of them arriving nearby so hopefully they'll be here soon.

The webcam page doesn't use the Java applet viewer anymore, it now relies on the built-in video support in many web browsers. It should work perfectly in Firefox, Chrome (non-mobile) and Opera. Safari and Internet Explorer are not supported yet.
